IBL-7
Ice Ball Launcher
The IBL-7 is used to impact roofing and other materials with simulated hailstones. Samples are mounted onto test panels that simulate real-life support conditions. The sample is then targeted at specific locations for impacts. The IBL-7 can produce velocities that real hail would achieve in free-fall or wind-driven conditions. The IBL-7 can launch ice balls as small as 1/2 inch in diameter up to 2-1/4 inch in diameter, as well as all sizes in between at 1/4 inch increments. Once the samples are impacted, they are examined with a variety of techniques for failure. Bituminous samples typically are de-saturated and reinforcements inspected for damage.
The IBL-7 package including the IBL-7 launcher, chronograph with tripod, four ice ball molds (1-1/4 in., 1-1/2 in., 1-3/4 in., and 2 in.), and manual.
